  1. The type that goes into a 150 cc scooter.

    Cheers!

  2. that has nothing to do with mileage... the octane rating is just the ability to resist engine knock...

just stick to the cheapest 87 octane

  3. The lowest octane your engine will run.  If it says regular, use that.

The highest octane gas actually has a teeny bit less energy in it, so will deliver less kick per milligram of fuel, but the engines made for premium usually do a better job of getting the energy out of the fuel, so the net difference is usually a wash.

  4. 89 octane or "plus" from shell is good for me

  5. 87 octane regular no lead.

The octane rating is the fuel's resistance to spontaneous combustion under compression.  The higher the octane rating, the more compression it takes to make the fuel spontaneously ignite.

A high compression engine requires higher octane fuel to prevent detonation.  Detonation is a condition where the fuel air mixture ignites while being compressed before the spark plug fires.  Detonation can cause serious internal damage to an engine.

Modern computer controlled engines have a knock sensor to detect detonation.  When detonation is detected, the engine management computer will adjust the fuel / air mixture and ignition timing to stop the detonation and protect the engine.  When this happens, there will be a loss of power and fuel economy.

Your 1998 Malibu 3.1 liter engine has a 9.6 to 1 compression ratio.  You don't really need to use a higher octane fuel until you go over 10 to 1 compression.

The higher octane fuel will not make your car run any better or last any longer.  You are only giving the oil companies more money than you need to.  I think they make enough money already.

The link below will tell you all about how gasoline works.  The 4th page of the article explains octane.

  6. just stick with shell gasoline 87 is fine 89 won't make any difference in your Chevy Malibu since is not a performance car

hundred millions of people ues 87

but 89 or 91 gas will just increase hp and engine permormance not mileage
