What gauge wire number is best for car amp?

what number of gauge wire is the thickest and its better for the amp not to heat?

if you can find it 0.guage it's not the easyest to find

it depends on the amp that you have.  the bigger your amp, the bigger power wire you will need.  don't go and spend $200 on a 0 ga amp kit if you don't need it.  and if you do need it, its not hard to find either, any audio shop will have it, and if they don't have it, they shouldn't be called an audio shop.  8 ga wire is good for most amps up to 400 watts rms, 4 will do for most amps up to 1000 watts rms, most amps bigger than that will need 0 ga wire.  these are rms power ratings, not to be confused with irrelevant max power ratings.
