What gear are amateur racers in during the race?

Do you mean motocross races? That depends on the bike. I could ride a 450F in 3rd gear around the whole track, on a 250F, same track, I would use 3rd and 4th, on a 125 2 stroke I would use 2nd through 6th. Of course it depends on the track also, but the bike is a bigger factor.
