What gender are my birds?

Question

I have two parakeets and i got them from a friend, and they were to young to tell. One has a pinkish white and they other has a purpleish pink color. Also if they are diff s*x how do you get them to mate my cuz a=has been trying very hard and i want to know so she can stop harassing me

well, you have to wait a while before their ceres turn colors. the girls usually have pink above their beak, while boys have blue. while they are babies, though. they usually stay pink but eventually can change color. however, sometimes it varies because i once had a parakeet with a blue cere but she laid eggs. thus, homer was a girl.

It sounds as though you have a girl and a boy but they are too young too mate.  The girl is ready when her cere turns a crusty brown and the male is when it turns a deep blue.  They should be at least 2 years old before trying to breed them, before that they are capable but too young to handle the responsibility.  

To mate, they also need to be on a very good diet with fresh foods, lots of greens and a good source of calcium.  They'll need a nest box, the proper number of daylight hours, and a stress-free environment.

Well the females have the purpleish pink colour. if the other one has the same colour. ( the purpleish pink) then you have two females. but if it is like a dark colour then its a male. I hope this info helps!:)

The one that's whitish will probably be a girl bcause when girls are young they are usually white. Boys r usually purple. U could buy a neat for them at any pet shop. But u have to wait until they get older. You can't force them.

I have owned parakeets for 44 years.To tell the gender of the bird look at its cere,its nose. A blue,dark blue or purplr nose is male. Light blue,pink and tan means female.

I also suggest that you buy and read some BOOKS about your birds.It is never a good idea to breed a bird without having the knowledge that you need to help your birds.You need to know about a proper diet for breeding birds,the signs of trouble in an eggbound hen,how to save an eggbound hen,the signs of breeding-related illnesses in birds.You also need to know how to care for hatchlings because your birds may not know what to do.Do you know how to handfeed fledglings? Do you have an incubator and a brooder? Please don't breed birds unless you know what you are doing.

And tell your cousin to back off. You can not force birds to breed. They have to bond with each other and every bird has its own preferences. I doubt very much that your cousin is a professional,board-certified avian breeder who can give you good advice.

the pinkish is defiantly the female.  usually a blueish color is male, so I am not sure is purpleish is in the same category.  

you can try a nesting box to get them to mate.

Don't breed the birds.  Then you will have more and more birds.  Is that what you want?
