Ducklings are 10 weeks and we thought they were female due to quacks but have noticed slight green tinge to heads in sunlight otherwise they just resemble females as the babies do at this age.. Any ideas as to whether they could be female with this slight green sheen? Thanks

  1. The males have green heads

  2. If it is a mouthy git with a speech impediment its most definitely a male especially if its best mate is a wise crackin rabbit from new joisey.  Watch out for elmer though.

  3. Mallards are males, they have the green heads.

  4. I do not believe you can easily tell the s*x of ducklings at least until they develop

adult plumage. Male and female wild mallard juveniles, usually through early fall of

their first year, are virtually identical in appearance. I am not sure about a hybrid.

  5. Thye sound like males, but the only way for sure is when they are fully grown. The males head will become all glossy green and he will have a quack that is low, deep and raspy. Female will have a loud high pitched quack.

only time will tell, good luck

  6. You will not be able to truly know their s*x till after the first molt at about 4-6 months.

When the Drakes (males) come into colour(Rainbow colours) on their neck and head also the wings).the females will retain their dull brown plumage.

  7. They are males, green on head.!!!

  8. male mallard ducks r mostly colorful n the female is mostly brownish

  9. Hi,

If they are starting to get the green sheen to their heads and neck, they'll most likely be drakes.

You should be able to tell the sexes at about 4 months old.

  10. if there heads are completely green they are male.

  11. It seems to me that your best plan is to wait and see !
