What genetic information cannot be determined from a Punnett square?

  1. The only genetic information that can be determined are characteristics that are based on a single gene and that have only one of too options.  For example, in peas the color and the 'wrinkles' of the seed are each determined by a single gene.  That gene can be recessive or dominant.  In other words, it can be green or yellow and smooth or wrinkled.  

    For things that are more detailed, like eye color in humans, mechanisms like Chi Square have to be used.


  2. body shape, pesronality, talent.

  3. A punnett square will only tell you the probability the offspring of two beings will have in getting certain characteristics.  Like blue eyes or brown, short or tall, things like that.  It will not tell you things like, the shade of brown a persons hair will be.  Hope this helps.
