What germs does Bleach kill when you clean with it?

I'm sick and I bought a cleaner with bleach to hopefully clean up the bathroom and kitchen sink and keep it less germy. Is it more effective to clean with bleach than say a regular cleaner with disinfectant?

  1. The standard hospital lab's "germ killer" is a gallon of water with a couple of cups of laundry bleach in it.  We put it in spray bottles for cleaning counters and wiping up blood spills.

It kills anything you need to worry about, is super cheap, and biodegradeable.

    PS: kills Ebola virus too

  2. Honestly, you don't need to clean with bleach to kill germs.  I use Clorox or Lysol Wipes to clean EVERYTHING except the inside of my toilet and tub/shower.  They are great for cleaning up counters and other surfaces.  We rarely get sick in my house since I started using them daily about 3 years ago.  Go through your house and wipe light switches, door k***s, phones, remote controls, and other "community" surfaces to keep germs down.  Cleaners with bleach are good too, you just can't use them everywhere or as conveniently.

If you still want to know exactly what germs bleach kills, just read the label.  Although an effective germ killer, bleach has its own setbacks.  Fumes from bleach can make you sick and cause respiratory problems, burn or irritate eyes and skin, and ruin surfaces and fabrics.

I hope you feel better soon!  ;)

  3. The best bleach cleaner I find is domestos. Either the neat bleach or the domestos spray multi purpose cleaner. All other bleaches just smell and do very little else.

  4. I have recently "gone green" with my cleaners because I kept getting headaches and migraines from many commercial chemicals.  I have begun using vinegar for nearly everything.  It kills most bacteria, viruses and mold.  It is much safer to use, and less harsh on you and the environment than bleach and other commercial chemicals.  It is also safer around kids and pets--and it is cheap!  It seems to be working as no one has gotten sick yet!

You can look up specific recipes on line, but most are vinegar and baking soda (as a scrubbing agent).  Some add a drop or two of essential oil (like lavender or lemon) to counteract the vinegar smell.  Honestly, you get used to the vinegar scent and it disappears when it dries.   The simplest one I use as an all purpose cleaner is a spray bottle of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water.  I highly recommend it!

  5. bleach will kill everything except ebola virus
