What gets done with used engine oil after an oil change, especially by oil change specialty garages?

Any number of things, It is recycled. By recycled I mean filtered and reprocessed into other various oil fuels.

A specialty garage will collect the oil up and have it shipped to the recycling station/ plant to go through the storing, filtering, and processing phases.

As was mentioned here, it can get reprocessed or can be used to heat buildings, using a specially-fitted oil burner.
