What gift to buy for friends that entertain you?

Friends of ours are entertaining us in New York for 2 days. I want to give them a practical gift they will use or eat. We live in San Diego, CA and would like to bring something representative of San Diego. They are an older couple that travels a lot.

Why not buy them a gift certificate to their favorite NY restaurant?  Or tickets to a broadway show that they haven't seen yet.  If they travel a lot, they probably love eating out and/or going to shows.

Get them some mexican crafts or works of pottery.  Maybe some tiles or dishware.  Or you can give them some salsa from a vendor you especialy like.  If they are practicing catholics get them some thing from the gift shop of the mission of San Diego de Alcala.  If they like natural things get them some of those dried out eucalyptus seed pods you have out there.  There are no eucalyptus trees on the east coast.  Or give them some bird of paradise flowers.  They have them on the east coast but they are pretty poor in quality because of all the shipping.  Other than that, all I can think of is a picture book of San Diego.  LOL  - actually if you could think of a way to get them in-n-out burgers you would be the best guest ever!

Give them some sort of unique antique collection, or visit the gift store and find a very rare and special large gift item that you can give them.

Something rare and special would be very nice.
