Want to know which would be better for hooking my 360 up to my HD tv (which doesn't have a HDMI slot).

  1. They should both be the same. HDMI is better because it's a digital signal but both component and vga are analog and basically the same connection types. The vga connection would be my choice but only because there's less chance the connectors will come off (a problem with component rca connections).

  2. If your TV has a VGA, use that.  The Xbox has pretty good video processing on board, and when you use the VGA input, it bypasses most of the on board processing your TV has.  VGA and component can both carry HD 1080i.  The only reason you need HDMI would be for 1080p, and they only developed HDMI for copyright protection, not because the component cables were insufficient.  I have both my Xbox 360 and PS3 going into a switcher that sends the signal to my plasma over a VGA and it looks amazing!  My Sony DVD player over component video looks like a VCR in comparison.  Knowing your TV model would be somewhat useful, but from experience I can tell you that the VGA looks great!

  3. VGA does not support HD.  Component cable supports HD up to 1080p and 1080i.  Your only HD option in component if you don't have a HDMI port.

  4. We need to know the Model of TV, and if the TV will accept 720P (if a 720P TV) or 1080P (If a 1080P tv) over the VGA input to answer that question.
