What gives an american away when traveling to Europe?

We look like them, so what gives us away?

Aside from accent, what do most people in Europe dress like? Do they wear nice shoes or regular shoes?

What is the best way to fit in and disguise oneself as a European.

When you look lost and confused and when your sight seeing like crazy compared to the people who have lived there there whole lives.

1) being fat

2) the accent is probably a good sign

3) only speaking English

4) sneakers when you are obviously not running or participating in a physical activity, sport, etc

disguise....

1) speak some other language with your friends

2) speak as little English as possible

3) practice the phrases you need and dont let them see you using your (insert foreign language here)-English dictionary

4) be generally attractive and in good shape

5) eat local foods...dont go there and find the nearest pizza/burger joint

6) don't look like such a f*cking tourist

7) get a decent pair of leather shoes/boots

What gives most Americans away is the volume of their voices - doesn't anyone talk quietly in the USA.

And their lack of respect - like talking very loudly while in a church with a service going on.

Second give away is those shorts and floral shirts - for dinner as well !!!!!

Third and perhaps most significant - demanding air conditioning and fridges in your room - even when your half way up a mountain

Probably all them dead Presidents hanging out of their pockets while standing in front of a 5 star French restaurant asking a passerby where the closest Mc Donalds is.  

I ACTUALLY witnessed this in a small hotel just off the Champs Elysee  in 1970!!!

Let me see if I understand this situation ?!?!

14 million people in this world would like to be doing what your doing (traveling in Europe) but you are concerned about the fact that people are (in your mind) trying to guess if your an American because of your manner of dress ?  And, and, you want to know how to disguise yourself to pass as a European?  

Honey,  pack your bag and come back to New Jersey (your missing some great T.V. shows!!!!!).

she usually wears dresses and Nike max 90's a lot of Europeans have seemed to take after her style.

she also wears jeans and t-shirts sometimes.

- The camera's

- They way that they stop and smile at things that everyone else takes forgranted like street performers.

-  The way that they display their wallets instead of having it tucked safely away

- Most tourists insist on speaking loud, don't know why that it.

- The lost look that they have on their faces while looking at massive maps.

I don't think that it's what you are wearing that gives you away.
