What gives with safety crew?

They took forever to put Montoya's fire out today just sat around with there fingures up there butts un believable there usually good at puttin em out but not today

We were wondering the same thing, I was waiting for the dang thing to blow! Hey, no hurry or anything, kay? Just a bon fire with a fuel tank going on over here!  Anyone got any marshmallows and a long stick? Someone was obviously not trained in the art of speedy fire fighting..

They did take an awful long time. They should have been ready to go instantly since JPM did them a favor and drove the car right up to them.

Im more curious how his car was still drivable after that fire.  He did get back on the track and I think finished.  Look like some seious fire damage.

And as far as the crew, the driver is priority over the car.

There were also drivers that were making their way down pit road. They were more than likely past the safety workers at that time, but still not wanting to jump out on the track until they knew it was clear. If you can catch the replay again, they are clearly talking into a microphone and probably had instruction not to go out onto the track. Furthermore, they are pit road safety officials, not the crew on trucks that clean up the track after wrecks. Every team has a role out there to make sure clean up is done correctly, just like the safety crew.

The safety crew that was standing by Montoya when he crashed was devoted to driver safety only another safety team was currently heading over to put out the fire. That team was devoted to keeping car fires under control.

they were calculating the closet possible route to get there because they didnt want to waste any gas because it costs an arm and a leg to fill that tank up

They said that the two(safety workers) that Kyle Petty, Bill Weber and  Wally were talking about main job was the drivers safety first, there were other safety guys that are assigned to the cars themselves. I guess its just a track or Nascar policy to have their safety workers assigned to certain aspects of a wreck or fires.
