Katrina was the worst natural disaster to ever strike the USA, and the storm wrecked an area of 90,000 miles (larger than Great Britain).  It will take a decade or more to rebuild the Katrina-devastated areas. There is no reason the USA should cease to help other places for a whole decade just because the Gulf coast is still being rebuilt.

I also see your question has attracted the usual BS "answers" from people who do not live in or near New Orleans and who have no actual knowledge of the city or the current situation.

New Orleans is NOT "built below sea level".

New Orleans is NOT prone to being flooded or being struck by hurricanes. The last storm to hit NOLA before Katrina was in 1965, and before that was 1947.  Neither of those storms flooded the city-proper like Katrina.

I see garbage posted all the time about how the people of New Orleans are "doing nothing", didn't "do squat",  or who are "whining".  Really!?  Show me all these whining people who are doing nothing.  I see a metro area of more than a million people that is busting its butt trying to recover with little help from anyone.  All we get is attitude from ignorant people like the ones who posted most of the "answers" to your question.

If you're not being reconstructed in a timely manner, ask your local officials. The problem in not with the federal government; a tremendous amount of money has been allocated. The problem is with New Orleans' legendary corrupt politicians. Why is Mississippi and Alabama so far ahead of you guys?

I agree with Andy.  At the end of 2007 the governor of Louisiana was bragging about how many millions of dollars surplus she had in the state Treasury. Why didn't she use that money to help NO.

New Orleans got a ton of private and public aid.

I know people who went to help yet when they return the next year find out the people of New Orleans did't do squat.

At sometime you need to move on rebuild on your own.

In KS where the twister level the town they had the streets cleared and people in homes before sunrise.

Unlike New Orleans who still are whinning.

Remember that the USA did provide a bunch of money and help for New Orleans.  How come New Orleans is the only city in the United States that is still whining after a hurricane when the rest of the areas are not?  Also, why is it that we have to rebuild areas that are way under the water level?
