What goes on at an 11 year olds physical exam?

My 11 year old son is a little self conscience about people talking or looking at hi male parts. he told me that he had heard rumors from his friends that the docter looked at them and also felt them.He wanted to know if this was true. I told him that they had to feel down there. but do they really have to look?
