I have designed a game and now need to do the box. I haven't got any boxes in my home and I can't seem to find any good examples on the net.

I want a picture of the board game on it and a brief description of the game but am not sure what else to put on it

  1. You should have:

    - Some pictures of the game (being played if possible)

    - Information about the game

    - The manufacturer's name (your name or a company you've invented)

    - A bar code and the RRP (recommended retail price)

    - A list of the pieces found inside the box

    Hope this helps!

  3. Your copyright information and business address etc would be a good idea.

The rules of the game can go on the bottom of the box or inside the lid or on a leaflet, but the bottom of the box should at least have a few phrases about the game, for instance "ideal for 2-4 players aged 10 to 15" "pit your wits against your opponents to be the first to build a giant hamburger" "Someone has been murdered and you are the detective!"

If the game has a theme for instance numbers, or money, use some graphics around that theme.

It wouldn't cost you much to visit a toyshop or Woolworths and have a look at some board games for further ideas.

  4. Check out www.boardgamegeek.com - you can find lots of box images, probably some of the backs of the box.

The box of a game is a very important part of your presentation.  You need the cover to grab someone in a store enough to pick it up and look at it, and the back of the box to get them excited enough to buy it, and to think "this is the game I want".

You want a good description; something that will interest people and tell them what its about.

You want to list number of players and playing time; many games put this in the corner of the box, or on the side.  That's very important for your potential customers to know.

You want a really nice picture of the components.  You want to make the game look neat and really show off any visual appeal it has.

You want all of this to sink in with about a 15 second glance, so don't go writing any epic novels on the back!

    Good luck.

  5. A list of contents and the suggested age range the game is suitable for would be a good idea.
