  1. I see no negative impact here on either side, i would consider it more of a step forward in the understanding and containment of electricity.

  2. i suppose electric motors replaced small repetitive devices like brooms and egg betters and so on, i suppose they've used more power generated by potential fossil fuel power plants, but they can't be consisted that environmentally unfriendly since they use less energy and thus produce less green house gases than heating and fuel powered motors. considering larger motors like in trains and factorys it could be said that the electric motor is very very environmentally friendly, see small motors are very efficient maybe starting at %85 but as they get bigger they approach %100 where as a diesel motor might be only %20 efficient, so in the end the electric motor is much better for the environment. it should also be taken into account that the smog and emissions from a electric motor are produced at the electric plant that it comes from so factories can be positioned very close to houses and citys with out making the air all crappy. further electric motors will always be %100 efficient where ever it's used, while the efficiency of other motors will change due to maintenance and so forth, i can easily presume the way electricity is produce by what ever means would be cleaner than a non-electric motor being run in a train or factory.

socially electric motors take away effort from people and in some cases jobs. this can course the problems such as that came about in the industrial revolution. and closer to home it can dis-attach people from what their doing like vacuum cleaning making it less rewarding and potentially making it seem less important. i suppose coupled with a fast food, already made, let a computer do it society this can leave people with various mental issues such as depression and low self esteem

  3. You first need to look at the uses of electric motors.

vacuum cleaners, fans, heaters, turntables, transport, pumps etc etc

They are mainly convenience uses rather than essential systems unless you include the pumps that keep life support systems going.

They use energy which contributes to environmental pollution is the only negative as far as I can see.

  4. The electric motor represents the bare use of electricity, and taken apart the positive effects to the society, I would say that negative impact to the environment and society is the lost of traditional way of work and Milena of cultural hand labor.  The electric motor negative effect could be similar to the negative effect of the Gutenberg printers;  knowledge spread throughout printed paper took labor from farms and mills, enrich human knowledge, but changed cultural hand labor.  Today's humanity could be completely different without printing and electricity, and it is impossible to know if even with all the actual technology we indeed are living better than without it.
