  1. Originally, Boomerangs DIDN'T come back. It WAS just a stick.  They were invented by Neolithic people to kill birds. They would be thrown into a flock of birds as they took off and you just picked it up when you went to retrieve your birds.

I suspect someone threw one that was a little curved and was really surprised when it came back. Most inventions are accidents.

  2. Well, you could still throw it and hit someone/something in the head with it.

That's what boomerangs were originally used for...hunting weapons.

EDIT: norvel.lewis and Cat are right...originally, boomerangs didn't come back. When people discovered that they COULD, however, they began to use the returning kind. They didn't just forget about the nonreturning ones, however...

They were also used for communication.

  3. A bent stick?

  4. A Boomerang is a simple wooden implement used for various purposes. It is primarily associated with Australian Aborigines, but other forms are found among peoples of North East Africa, Sardinia, Arizona and Southern California Native Americans and in India. Boomerangs come in many shapes and sizes depending on their geographical/tribal origins and intended function. You  are talking about the most recognizable type, the returning  boomerang. It's a throwing stick, when thrown correctly, travels in a curved path and returns to its point of origin. Other types are of the non-returning sort, and are not thrown at all but are used in hand to hand combat, as  hunting weapons, battle clubs, fire starters and as recreational play toys. The smallest may be less than 10 cm from tip to tip, the largest over 2 meters long. Tribal boomerangs may inscribed and/or painted with designs meaningful to its maker. Most boomerangs seen today are of the tourist or competition sort, and are invariably of the returning type.

  5. Your are supposed to take notice of the subject you threw it at. Then when it does not return ' IT'S A HIT'. Then you collect your prize.

  6. As good as a Frisbee.

  7. Not a lot.

  8. A stick.

  9. As I understand it Cat it right. A boomerang is a throwing stick intended to kill or stun. Some of the heavy fighting ones are not made to return but to fly accurately. They have a heavy end that is curved in order to spin and increase the force when they strike. The ones that return are really just demonstration ones not serious weapons

  10. Ask Charlie Drake

  11. Boomerang describes several thrown weapons, not all of them come back.  An example of this is the kylie (seriously).

  12. HI there..

Well, it is a very good lesson learned.  It proves that you can be easily separated from your money.  A worthless toy.

  13. You can still throw it really hard...hit something...still useful in some ways

  14. firewood.

  15. I guess it would just be a toy you threw and did not get back. Most do come back though. I had a light plastic one, and it was so fun, it came back again and again, until it landed and a tree, and that was all she wrote. I've never had a wooden boomerang, i guess they would be heavier, and more could go wrong. But what do i know about Boomerangs?

If a boomerang didn't come back, it would be just that, a boomerang that didn't come back.

  16. It would be good cardiovascular exercise chasing after it.

  17. a frisbee
