  1. I myself would not use the 270 although a very good caliber for hunting whitetail deer but not enough knock down power for a moose stick with the 300 or a larger  caliber with the largest grain bullet they make. A moose has a very tough hide good luck!

  2. Whoever is using the .270 should be the more experienced shot because to drop a moose with a smaller rifle you will need a well placed shot at a fair distance. Go to your local hunting shop and get the biggest grain they carry for the .270. The only upside to the .270 is the accuracy at a long range but you have to take into account the size of the moose your trying to drop.

  3. For the .270 I would use the largest grain of bullet available and for the .300 wsm i would go with 175gr or bigger.

  4. Moose are a lot easier to knock down than Elk.

140 or 150 for the 270 and the shot will not be very long (at least in Western Maine)

180 is fine for the 300 WSM

I have seen them come into the check station after being harvested with a 30-30.

My preference is "Bigger is Better" and having read "Use Enough Gun" a few times, I harvested two Moose with a 375 H&H Mag with 250 gr Sierra Gameking bullets.Contrary to popular belief, it does not destroy lots of meat. There is almost no purple blood shot meat to deal with. The 375 is neat you can eat right up to the hole.

  5. A good brand of 180 grain will be fine (but i have a freind in BC Canada that uses a 308 170 grain and a 30/30 in 170 grain.

  6. 180gr. faliSafe 300 WSM

  7. For the .300 WSM I'd use the 180 grain premium hunting round.  I consider the .270 Winchester a bit too light for Moose but if it's all I had I'd use the heaviest hunting bullets I could possibly find, preferably heavier than 150 grainers.

  8. Use the Winchester power point 180 grain in the 300wsm.* Use the Winchester 150 grain XP3 bullet in the 270..* This information is based on the 2008 Winchester product Guide Book for the proper ammo used to harvest Moose in those calibers.*
