ive had to send my 9600 gt back because it is broken and i have been refunded and am now asking what graphs card.

The 9600 came up as a dx9 hardware but is supposed to be dx 10,

now ive seen on the internet that some dx 10 cards downgrade to dx 9 if your using windows vista (I'm using vista)

is this wright and any thoughts on which card i should consider?

Thank you every one.

  1. hi christopher

thats a shame as the geforce 9600gt is quite a good graphics card, and its weird it dosent support direct x 10,however remember you need to be running windows vista to utelise direct x 10 graphics

as for another good direct x 10 graphics card theres loads to choose from but my recommendations are the following:

    1.nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1024MB PCI-E ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

this is a excellent mid range card with some strong specifications, these include a 600mhz core clock and a massive 1gb of ddr3 memory running at 1800mhz,along with a 256bit memory bus and you have a strong graphics card capable of basically anything you care to throw at it

    2. Gigabyte HD 4850 512MB PCI-E 2.0 ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

another powerful card with strong gaming features, these are due to its excellent base specifications which include a 625mhz core clock and 512mb of gddr3 memory running at 1986mhz,this again has a 256bit memory bus and support for direct x 10.1 and shader model 4.1

    3. nVidia GeForce Overclocked 8800GT 512MB PCI-E ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

this is a factory overclocked version of the excellent geforce 8800gt and this is a great card for gaming, its also a popular card among system builders, especially when building sli enabled systems

its specs include a 650mhz core clock and 512mb of ddr3 memory running at 1800mhz,and with the 256bit memory bus you have quite a performer, this also comes with a very efficent stock cooler, one the whole a great all round gaming card

       4. Asus GeForce GTX 260 896MB PCI-E 2.0 ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...

i have gone for this card however the price may be out of your budget, well anyway if you can afford it you wont be dissapointed

its not as fast as the gtx280 however its by no means slow aswell, and when you look at its specifications you will see why, with a 576mhz core clock and 896mb of gddr3 memory running at 1998mhz this is amazingly fast and will future proof your p.c for a good few years

however if your budget will stretch to the gtx280 then go

for that, its the king of the hill at the moment and nothing can touch it,however the gtx260 is still a awesome card and worth every penny

hope this helps however any problems let me know

                       good luck christopher  !

  2. Hmm... Quite a peculiar problem. If you really have Vista the video card would be in DX10 mode already..... More likely than not if you buy another video card it might still do the same....

But if you want one of the best, try the Radeon 4850. As it's one of the fastest video cards available today. Beating even the GeForce 9800GTX for the same and even at times lower price.

  3. you might want to get a better graphics card an ati radeon 3870x2 or 4870x2, or get an nvidia geforce 9800 GTX.

    hope this helped  :)

  4. DX10 cards should register as DX10 under Vista, and the 9600GT was indeed a card very worthy of your consideration for the 90$ it costs. The 8800GT is a bit faster, and costs 115$, plus there's the barnstormer HD4850. The last one costs 150$, but is faster than even a 9800GTX.
