What guage of guitar string should i get for an electric guitar?

  1. I use D'Addario 9's. 8's are a little too light for me and tend to break. 9's seem to have a fatter sound. I play metal so I can really bend the h**l out of them.


  2. Depends on what gauge you play best with.

    Lighter gauge are easier to play -- and easier to bend.  However, most feel that heavier gauges sound better (but are harder to bend).  It's kind of a bragging type thing when you can play (and bend) heavy gauges.

    I think that when you get to the point in your playing that the thing most affecting your sound is your string gauge -- and not your amp, your guitar, your pedals, or your talent/skill -- then that's probably the most appropriate time to consider this question.

    If you're not at that point, then I'd go with a medium gauge -- maybe 9's or 10's.
