  1. For a beginner, definitely go with acoustic. i recommend the epiphone dove dreadnought. its gorgeous and has a good sound

  2. acoustic has bigger strings and it is a little easier to hit the notes.but electric guitar is going to give you more sound. it's actually what you you want a good brand would be a fender guitar I like them alot.and they range in price.but go to a music store and talk to one of the guitar teachers.they know guitars in and out and they will answer any questions you might have.good luck and while learning the main thing to do is to have fun.

  3. I would definitely start with an acoustic.  I'm a beginner myself and I recently bought a Yamaha.  It cost $150, it looks great, and it has an amazing sound.  I have an electric as well, though I found that the type of songs that I'm learning sound much better on the acoustic.  I think you will enjoy playing on the acoustic.  I would wait on the electric until you get really good, then you can justify spending more money and getting something good like the Stratocaster or the Gibson SG.

Also, I would recommend guitar center.  I went there to get my acoustic and they also helped me find a book with a DVD and CD that taught me basic theory as well as more challenging technique.  They were also very helpful in finding me the best picks, a stand, and a strap, and they even have recommendations for teachers if you wish to take lessons.

Hope this helps!  Have fun playing.

  4. Yamaha would probably be best. They are good beginner guitars. They arent too expensive and they arent complete c**p.

  5. you should prob start with an acoustic...electrics are WAY expensive, so if you get one and decid you don't like it, you just wasted 1,000 dollars.

    my first guitar was FANTASTIC...

it was an acoustic called a Takimine Jasmine.

  6. to be honest with you i started on guitar hero to get the feel for it then move on to accoustic and then electric

  7. Have a look at these beautiful original guitars. They sell for $90 and are amazing for the sound and the playability and the nice finish.

I admit that they are slightly smaller but , this is the perfect guitar for women..

If you dont't like them which i doubt, then try the Takamine with the single cutaway. They sell for around $150 and are also very good. The sound, the finish, the quality are all up to par.

    Your choice...:-)

  8. get an acoustic first id suggest yamaha, good sounds and nice feel,

    ibenze guitars are ok to,

and as you get better and feel that your ready, you cvan get an electric if you feel

  9. Starters should go on acoustics ofc, wider nech and easier to hit strings..definitely acoustic.

  10. It is probably better to start with an acoustic guitar. I bought the Jasmine (by Takamine) S33 acoustic guitar. It sounds awesome, and it's not that expensive. I only payed $180 for it and it even came with a hard case.

  11. I always recommend a beginner to learn on an acoustic guitar. It tests your determination, motivation, and will power to succeed. If you can move beyond the painful fingertips and develop the needful calluses then you will be on your way to progress on the instrument.

Yamaha and Alvarez make fine intermediate acoustics for the beginner, somewhere in the price range of $300.

  12. It depends on the style of music you want to play. My son loves metal and years ago I bought him a cheapy Samick with guitar-and-amp. He was about 8. By the time he was 9 or so, he got tired of just plunking on it and took me up on offers to take him to lessons. Since then we've worked out way up through several guitars and he's playing a Gibson Les Paul now.

I, on the other hand, prefer acoustic music. If you can find a store in your area that sells Seagull guitars, they are a great bargain. They are hand-made in Canada and for $299 you get the quality you'd pay for a $1,000 American-made guitar. Yamaha is OK, Takamine for a few dollars more is better.  Go to a reputable dealer, like Guitar Center, and be honest about your situation and ask for a recommendation. Just be prepared to offer them $25-50 less than the asking price, as the mark-ups on guitars is insane. If they won't deal, walk away.

Most acoustic guitars have steel strings, which hurt at first but in time you get callouses (sp?) on the tips of your fingers. There is also the "classical" guitar (like for Spanish flamenco music, etc.), which has nylon strings -- much easier on the fingers for newbies. And don't let anyone knock classicals. Willie Nelson's beat-up old guitar is a classical, which he uses to play country music.

The most important thing is not to blow a bundle. Learning to play is FUN! But be prepared to pay at least $250 for even a halfway decent beginning guitar.
