  1. id recommend a starter kit and they are put out by many different brands. Ibanez, squire, yamaha, epiphone, and probably more. The nice thing about a starter kit is that it comes with the amp and cables and picks and tuner and a chord chart and basically everything u need to get started. Id say look at a site like guitarcenter.com and check reviews and find one that works for u

  2. To be honest the starter kits can be quite frustrating when you start to get a little better and want to upgrade.

I reccommend an Epiphone Les Paul Custom for 200$ and a Roland Cube Amplifier (one of the X models, 15x, 20x, and the 30x). The Roland Cube has so many effects and is a quality amp. The sounds you can achieve with it are amazing for the price! Also the Epi Les Paul Special is a great deal! It's a decent guitar, and it should last you a while.

    Hope that helps~

  3. It depends on if you want an electric or acoustic. You should check out Musicians Friend on the internet.  I think it's Musiciansfriend.com.  They have a lot of guitars from expensive to cheap but almost all are of good quality.  This will give you an idea of prices.  Be careful if buying a used guitar or have someone who knows look at it before you buy it.  If you try starting out on a guitar that is hard to play or won't stay in tune it can be very frustrating.  You can also download a free beginners e-book on line a http://GuitarLeader.com.  It covers almost all the basic info you're going to need to know to get started.  The best advice I can give is to stick with it. I've been teaching guitar for more than 20yrs and most students drop out within the first month or two.  If you can get past some of the hurdles at the beginning you'll find playing and learning the guitar fun and easy!   GOOD LUCK

  4. get a squire stratocastor from fender or a Ibanez gio best thing for the money out there. and you can get either for less than $200.

I just got one on ebay for 75 and it works great

  5. It all depends on what type of music you want to play. An electric guitar, such as a Fender Squire would be a decent starting guitar, and they can be found in the 200-300 price range. I've also played around with some fairly cheap Dean acoustic and electric guitars (as well as acoustic/electric) and I was fairly impressed. Electric guitars in general one might find a little less frustrating to start with, though both electric and steel string acoustic guitars can be a little tough on the fingers, especially those that are entry-level.

I strongly advise shopping in a music store -- if you're shopping in a music store, asking the employees will certainly help you out if you don't know what to look for. It's very easy to get stuck with a not so good starting guitar if you don't know what to look for.
