What guitar strings should i get?

I have been playing guitar for 3 years now and some of my guitars' strings are very rusty. does anybody know what kind of strings i should get? I play a lot of thrash and paul gilbert-type solos, and i don't know if i should get light gauge or medium-light. I also want some strings that will not rust for a long time.

also if you could answer my other question that would be very helpful (it's also about guitar strings)

You should change string every month if you shred like Paul Gilbert. Get Ernie balls .009 as this is what he uses. They are extera light gauge string which is why he can do a ot of left-hand pull-off technique without actually picking every note.
