  1. The AK-47 It;s rugged an take a lot more abuse then the M-16 will when push comes to shove .

  2. Ak-47 of course

  3. FOR? Depends if you want to hold off the cops, in case of emergency, or as an investment. Cant go wrong with a shotgun for all above reasons.

  4. lol i think you mean an ar15 unless the M16 is registered but wuts ur dad gonna use it for? home defense, target shooting, or hunting?

    home defense- shotgun

target shooting- depends which one u want. ak47 is the most reliable, ar15 most accurate and upgradeable and you can hunt coyotes or anything smaller than that with it. it also has cheaper ammo. shotguns gonna be easiest to hit stuff with if u get good with it but over 75 yrds the slug is gonna start to drop alot. so id go with the ar15

    hunting- depends what ur hunting

btw i dont believe u on this!

  5. If he wants a dependable weapon the AK-47

If he wants an accurate weapon the M-16

If he wants a home defense weapon the shotgun

    Vet-USAF

  6. Ask your self what do you want it for?

Plinking,   M-16 (prob AR-15, the 16 is military full auto)

                   ammo is generally cheap

Hunting,  AK-47 with 5rd mags (use hollow points) or 12 gauge

                   shotgun.

All h**l breaking loose, probably AK-47.  Simple, reliable, and you can get surplus steel core armour piercing ammo.

But then again you said the magic word.....FREE

  7. Charles you can not use ak47 ammo in a m16.  Ak47 is 7.62X39.  M16 is 5.56X45MM.  You cant get an M16 For less than $8000.  M16's are select fire.  You need a class 3 license to own one.  Plus a 200 Buck tax stamp.  You can get an AR15. Go with an AK101 That you can use the same ammo as an m16.

  8. Doesnt sound like he needs anyones help on this.

ANyway An AR 15 and a semi auto shotgun.

  9. m-16 the Ak is inaccurate in about 30 shots you'd be luckey to hit half of em the m-16 you garenteed at least 20 hits

  10. AK-47you can use M-16 ammo in it.

  11. if these are the only options then M-16, that is because it can be easliy modified, and can be a lot of fun.

If you Dad is a hunter then a shotgun would be better....an over/under 12 gauge is very cool and used for shooting skeet and trap. If he likes to hunt birds then a 6 shot auto would be better.

If he is looking for just plan old shoot-em-up fun, well then it is the AK....there is no better fun for shooting...

but if you are looking for a weapon that can be shot at a indoor gun range then a handgun is the best. A cheap, fun, and dependable handgun is the ruger GP100, red or blackhawks, kimber 45ACP, or a good old nickel plated colt 45ACP.

The ruger are a revolvers, and the kimber and colt are autos.

Goodluck, I am sure whatever you choose he will enjoy.

  12. Neither. He should get an SKS. The SKS is an indestructible and reliable firearm that allows me to put six out of 10 rounds in a 3-inch target at 150 yards. You can't beat an SKS.

  13. It depends on what he likes to shoot, and if you're  shooting in an indoor range. Many indoor ranges don't allow rifles, other than .22's, and some don't allow shotguns.

If you'll be shooting outdoors, then the choice becomes the one issue of what he likes to shoot best.

If he prefers rifles to shotguns, he might like to pick up an AK-47. They are highly dependable and reliable. They are also very easy to strip and clean.

Try and stay away from stamped versions if you can afford to, the milled models are better and nicer, but performance is pretty uniform anyway. There are a ton of them out there too. There are Russian, Chinese and even Romanian, among many others.

The M16 is OK, but has reliability issues and is not as rugged as many of the AK's made.

You still have the issues of personal preference and whether or not to buy American. If Patriotism is a big thing for him, he'll want to pick up the Colt M16, or M4A1.

All three weapons are fun to shoot and it is a difficult choice.

For shotguns, Mossberg makes a very reliable and tough M500 which is inexpensive and fun to shoot as well. Remington makes the 870, which is also used by Law Enforcement and military too. It's also a very nice weapon. Also, check out the Benelli M Super90. It is the tactical shotgun I use and it switches between pump and semi-automatic. It is a bit pricey, but for the money, the best shotgun around, and a BLAST to shoot.

Also, if the M16 is a free gift from your Grandpa, he should take that also, as long as your Grandpa is truly willing to part with it.

Good luck selecting something fun and interesting to collect.

  14. m-16

  15. Is the M-16 registered?  If not, avoid it, even if it is free, (AR-15 is a different story).  If the M-16 is registered, he should go with that one, it will be worth the tax, hassle and paperwork in the long run.

BTW; charles.young580 doesn't know what he is talking about, you can't use 5.56x45 ammunition in a rifle designed for 7.62x39 ammunition.
