  1. Remington 700 or Savage 11F bolt action rifle chambered in .308 Or .243, both calibres are good for deer and preform similar with of course the .308 having more knock down power

  2. Sniper training has little to do with the marksmanship. You'll want to concentrate both on hunting and on target shooting at both known and unknown ranges. And that will take different setups. A good target rifle generally makes for a lousy hunting rifle, and that goes double for the optics. If you can only afford one, I'd suggest the hunting rifle, and that's pretty wide open among the sporter-weight bolt-action rifles, with scopes in the vicinity of 2-7x.

  3. remington model 700, .308, 7mm mag, .338.

  4. Practice and for deer??   That would be a Remington 700 VTR or SPS bolt action rifle chambered in .308....

    VTR....

    SPS...

The military, police, competition target shooters as well as hunters use the .308 cartridge..... See this .308 cartridge guide..

The other reason to use the .308 is the costs of ammunition... Shooting can get very expensive. The cost of ammo can exceed the cost of the rifle over a period of time so its best to stick with .308 or even .223... Since deer is what your after then .308 is the better choice....

Use Soft Point for hunting and FMJ (Full Metal jacket) for target practice....

And another good source of ammo...

  5. I believe they still use the .308 Winchester for the most part.

A heavy, stiff barrel will help, and I prefer the remington 700 ovations - you may want an after market trigger if your is too rough. Some can be adjusted, some are sealed. I would leave this to a gunsmith if you are not familiar with the process.

No matter which rifle you get, don't put a cheap scope on it. If you really want to shoot at long ranges, you'll need all the optics you can afford. It would not be unusual to spend no re on the scope than the rifle.

    Good luck
