I want to be a cheerleader soooo bad, and I can do a basic cartwheel, and I can almost do a split. Is that enough?

  1. it depends on how old you are. if you are in highs school you should know splits, heal stretches, hand springs and tucks if you can.

  2. it depends on  what ur school requires.

i would start going 2 open gym @ a local gymnastics place and work on ur round off back handspring. tht way, if u go to tryouts and you dont have it yet, you can tell them that ur learmning stuff.

coaches and captains love people who are learning new things and are willing to.

also have lots of enthusiasm. at tryouts, put ur hair in a ponytail and put a bow in. wear school colors, and ask questions.(coaches also lovew ppl who ask questions)

be loud and clear and dont goof around until you get to know what the coach is like.

    good luck!

  3. It depends on what grade of school and how competitive your school is. If your school is competitive, then no, a cartwheel may not be enough. If you are aiming to cheer at the college level you may be required to do a standing back tuck at tryouts.

When it comes to tryouts, the girls that have the most skills get the best shot. Gymnastics moves are good but they are not the only skill judged. Ability to learn a routine, skill in dance moves, crispness in cheer motions - these are also very important. A great smile and positive attitude help too.

Take gymnastics classes, take dance classes, and most importantly, go to a cheer camp in the summer. During the year, see if your park district offers cheer classes.

    Good luck!

  4. Work on the splits, cartwheels, roundoffs, backhandsprings, etc.
