Okay. I've dyed my hair a lot in the past and frequently, no more than 3 months apart though. And I want my natural color back but that probably cant happen. EVERYTIME i dye my hair, it literally washes out with the first wash, and i use the permanent. And I don't dye my hair any type of red anymore cause I know it washes out, but I have this deep burgundy that I'm considering. I'd love to go light but its WAY too harsh on my hair. What's the best hair color to use?

  1. I'd recommend going to a salon if you're not doing that already.

From my personal experience, since lightening your hair is actually basically bleaching it (though a lot of good-quality dyes do this in a less harsh manner) it lasts forever (excluding roots of course).  I'm brunette myself, and I went down the blonde road for a good few years.  I then decided to try to go back to my natural colour, which is a dark brown.  The first time the dye eventually faded to a wierd rusty-red-ish brown, but the second time I dyed it as dark as I could without going black.  It has lightened, but it now basically matches my roots and I'm pretty much back to my natural colour.

So, in summary, 1, go to a salon, and 2, go a shade or two darker than natural.  It'll eventually fade to your natural.

    Good luck :)

  2. Depends on what brand

    of hair dye you use.

  3. well there isn't exactly a hair color that stays in longer but there are different brands like loreal that provide conditioner with it to prevent wash out if you want to go back to your original color if you go to a beauty supply store like sally beauty supply they have a hair dye remover that puts your back to it original color
