What hair dye actually lightens hair?

I have very dark, dark brown hair, but I want it to be a chocolaty brown color. Is there any hair dye I can use to lighten my hair without going to a salon? Thank you! :)

There is a color called Medium Rich Brown from Revlon hair dye box and its a very pretty color and it lightens it up witha shine! I luv it!
