What hamster breeds can live in a "pack" of 3 or more?

I know this question may sound dumb to most of you. I was wondering which breed of hamsters can live together. I heard Robos can but I'm not so sure. Just one hamster seems lonely to me even though it might be good for some hamsters. That's the reason I want hamsters that can live in a little colony.

Thanx 4 answering!!!

  1. Most dwarf hamsters - Campbell's, Winter Whites, and Robos - can live in colonies.

However, they can still be territorial, and sometimes it just doesn't work out. Hamsters living together need lots of space and enough hiding places to choose from. Most cages sold in pet stores are too cramped for multiple dwarfs - you'd need to either make a homemade cage out of a bin or larger tank or get two "tube" cages and connect them. Hamsters that don't have enough space will be more likely to fight. You'd also want to make sure there are plenty of hiding places so they can have "alone time" - if you have 3 hamsters, have 4+ hiding places.

"Squabbling" is part of normal hamster social behavior, and often sounds worse than it actually is. Don't split up dwarf hamsters because you see them fight for a few seconds. Sometimes, though, if one hamster is clearly being bullied or they're hurting each other, it does become necessary to take out the bully and give him his own cage.

  2. dwarf russian hamsters, campbell hamsters and roborovski hamsters can live together.  But if your hamster has been living alone for a long time there is a big chance that it will not accept the new comer!
