  1. Get a brown and white mottled one with pink eyes and call it Henry, and I think you will find it the best.

  2. If I were you I would buy a Teddy Bear hamster because they are sweet, and make a good first hamster. The little ones will love him.

The only down side is Teddy Bear hamsters are bigger then dwarf hamster so they can not fit in the tubes. But buy a lizard cage that is about 10 gallons. Its enough room for my hamster and he loves it.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck

  3. You should get a Black Bear Hamster. There the best. There the friendliest of all hamsters, There syrian so their slow and big(harder to escape) and there really cute.

  4. a budgie.

  5. Its not really the type of hamster its the hamster in general.  You could have a dwarf hamster to a fancyhamster and notice a diffrence.  Youi could  pick it by the look or another charesttic you like.

  6. I've had many dwarf hamsters in the past but I now have a Syrian hamster and gerbils.  Dwarf hamsters look adorable but there is something about Syrians that I just love.  I would say try a Syrian hamster. They are much more friendly and don't mind attention.  Dwarf hamsters may not like as much attention.  I did have many dwarf hamster babies grow up with me and those guys were very social but I think it was because they got used to me at a very young age.

A syrian hamster cannot have a cage mate.  They prefer living in solitude.

If you get a dwarf hamster you could have two but the pair should be from the same cage.  Since they already know each other there shouldn't be fighting but introducing dwarf hamsters that don't know each other increase the chances of fighting.

I prefer my Syrian because overall he is the most social and friendly type of hamter I have had.  He hears my voice and gets up to greet me and seems to like being picked up.  He is gentle and has never bitten  me.  I find dwarf hamsters have a tendency to bite more.

However, each hamster has it's own personality either way.  With either species of hamster you will find the friendly hamsters, the loners, and the biters.  I would suggest picking up the hamster at the store first to try to get an idea of his personality.  When I first picked up  my Syrian in the store he was calm and gentle and still is to this day.

    Good luck!

  7. Any hamster. You can't really predict what hamster will be really friendly or anything. Go to a pet store and see which you like. Maybe see which comes to you (that's what happened with my hamster). As long as you can take care of it, buy what it needs and everything then any hamster will be fine

  8. Get a guinea pig! Hamsters can bite hard, while guinea pigs only bite by accidently and if it bites u on purpose its more like a gentle nip.  They will love u and recognize u and ur voice! Unlike hamsters they cant really climb up stuff, so they won't get lost, lost.

They communicate with u, so u can tell how they feel (angry, annoyed, happy, FOOD, pay attention, and sad)! They are adorable and awesome to have. If u can't spend a lot of time with them get two! It's really fun to see them run around at floor time too!

They can even learn their name's, and some really smart ones can be potty trained, they only have accidents when they are scared or when they can't hold it any more, they love to snuggle u, and alot more guinea pigs in they world need homes than hamsters, millions are slaughtered in shelters because they can't find homes for them.

  9. ye i would as long as u look up on the care of it first before getting it coz not many 12year olds have pets but if u wan t 1 then go for it

  10. Ahh... this is a good question but a tuff decision to make. Syrian and Russian hamsters are very small and cute, but they can have a strange temperament. Normal hamsters are a good choice but I've never had one that didn't escape frequently and if you lose it, it's heartbreaking. I would seriously consider some rats. I know most people dont like them, but they fit your criteria, they are ok if the house isn't too loud, they are the only small animal that enjoys being stroked and they are INCREDIBLY intelligent. You need to by them in pairs or more because they can become bored and antisocial on their own, and they need to be the same breed because they can have up to 20 babies at a time that aren't easy to care for. But overall, they are WONDERFUL pets and I have two and got my first rats when I was 14, I've loved them since!!

  11. It depends on what you prefer. There are 2 types of hamsters Syrian and Dwarf.

    Syrian:

Syrian hamsters are good for young children or first time hamster owners. These type of hamsters are solitary and so shouldn't be caged with another syrian from seven weeks of age. Doing so can eventually lead to the hamsters fighting and either becoming seriously injured or the death of one or both hamsters. Syrians can come in a variety of different colors in either short or long-haired. Long-haired syrians may require a little extra help with grooming and you can do this by brushing your hamster with a soft toothbrush. Hamsters are nocturnal creatures meaning that they sleep all day and get up late at night. So they are ideal for people who are at school or work during the day.

    Dwarf:

Unlike Syrians dwarfs can be kept in pairs or groups. You must make sure that the hamsters you buy are the same s*x or you could end up with a whole family of hamsters. They are very sociable animals and should live in at least a pair so they don't become lonely. Make sure the pair you buy are from the same cage or litter. If not it can lead to the hamsters fighting and becoming hurt. Dwarfs from different litters can be introduced but it is not always successful.

Dwarfs when kept in groups will sometimes play fight, you can sometimes hear them squeaks they do this. They do this to find out who is the most dominant of the group. This is usually nothing to worry about but sometimes fighting can become severe. If you see any blood then they must be separated immediately and live in separate cages so they don't become injured.

Dwarfs are a lot smaller than syrians so they are not ideal for young children because of their small nature and fastness. Especially Roborovski as they are very fast hamsters and almost impossible to catch or hold.

    Additional info about hamsters:

A hamster cage should be cleaned weekly, if not this can lead to the hamster becoming ill. Fresh food and water should be given everyday. Provide two teaspoons of food daily and any uneaten food should be thrown away.

    I hope this helps! :)

  13. A dead hamster.

  14. I had 2 dwarf hamsters and they were the sweetest things in the world.Though the same breed, they were completely different-one was active and loved to play and the other just slept all the time and wouldnt come out of the cage. So i guess it doesnt really matter what type you get as you wont know wat they're really like when u get them. As a rule tho, syrian hamsters are easier to handle as they are larger than dwarf hamsters. U have to remember that their lifespan is very short though and can cause a lot of heartbreak...

If u have anymore questions on how to care for them, dont hesitate to ask. x

  15. Well a good starter hamster is the common (but cute!) Syrian Hamster, they are really play full and will always be interested in you! Just make sure that the cage is kept away form T.V's Stereos and windows, these can all effect the Hamster in negative ways.

If you're looking for something a little more unusual then go for a Roborovskii Hamster. They aren't as play full as the Syrian but are VERY quick when they want to be, but are naturally docile (sleepy) and will like to be petted gently.

Good luck with your new pet!

    x

P.S - when you get your Hammy home, introduce it to as many new experiences as possible as they are very inquisitive and cleaver animals!
