  7. Well, for one thing it USED to be the EIGHTH month (OCTO - eight) until Julius Caesar decided to make a new month named after himself (JULY - the new SEVENTH month) and then his nephew and successor (Caesar Augustus) named a month after himself AUGUSTus. Both months helped to even out the calendar which was gaining days each year because ten 30 day months were just not enough to record the trip of the Earth around the sun which took 365 days.  October holds Columbus Day which commemorates the arrival of Europeans to the New World which is an innacuracy because the Chinese, Japanese, Irish and the Norwegians both probably made it to the New World LONG before the Spanish and Portugese.  Halloween is the ancient celebration of the Dead - the end of "summer" and beginning of winter- the ancient Celtic New Year "Sahwehn" which took place on Oct. 31 and is still recognized by those in Central and South America and Dias del Muertes (the Day of the Dead).  Christian Europeans and Americans call it "All Souls Day" and we just commemorate our ancestral loved ones who have died.  All Souls Day is Nov. 1.  The "Hallows" were the saints or the dead who had gone to God.  "Een" is "evening" or Eve" or the night BEFORE "Hallows Day" or Hallow E'en" ... like Christmas EVE or New Year's EVE.
