What happen if carbon bond with more than 4 atoms?

  1. I'm pretty sure that carbon can only bond with at the most 4 other atoms.  Carbon only needs 4 electrons in order to fill its shell needs.  It is possible for carbon to bond with less than 4 other atoms and still fill the shell but I don't see any way that carbon would bond with more than 4 atoms.  In order for that to happen the carbon wouldn't be carbon in the first place!
