What happen to my sons fish?

Question

So i went to a wedding and the center peice at the tables was a vase with a betta fish in it and a plant on top, i bought it home and thought how crule it was to keep a fish in a vase. so i put him in a tank with a few plants and gravel on the bottom. but ever since i put him in there he has been barley swimming. just hanging around the top corner. its been a few hours i made sure the water was room temp. can anyone help me out here what is wrong?

All betas do that. That's natrual, don't worry about it. =]

Betta are Labyrinth fish meaning they get their oxygen from the surface of the water. If you don't have a source of oxygen in your tank the betta is going to depend on getting air from the surface. You may also need a heater because betta need water a little above room temperature to thrive. This most likely explains why your son's betta is in the top corner of your tank.

Betta's aren't very active. Mine just lazes around his bowl.

All these idiots that say bettas don't move much probably have them in little bowls.  A betta fish will move just as much as any other fish if given proper care.  Is the tank heated and filtered?  Is it atleast 2.5 gallons?  There tank could be cycling, the ammonia jumping, and not making him feel too well.

Well you've made an improvement on it being in a vase but a betta really needs a 5 gallon tank with a filter and a heater to do well.  Betta's need water about 80F and it needs to be consistent.  They become very lethargic in colder water.

Well, thanks for doing that for the fish. Bettas tend not to move much. It's not anything you should worry about. Your betta's fine as long as you feed it (only every couple days, though).
