Well I heard that the plan was to kill off two-face and bring back ledger as the Joker to explore him more, but since he died their only options are to do a complete 180 and explore two-face and forget about the Joker, or introduce a new villian, because you cannot replace ledger, no one will ever top him.

nothing. heath finished the role before he died. they'll probably focus on another villain for the next movie.

Nothing changed about the movie. Director Chris Nolan promised to finish the movie the way he had originally planned to, and that's how it came out.

As for the character, only time will tell. There really are only three options. (1) Recast the part, (2) "Kill off" the character, (3) use ununsed footage shot for the first movie.

Number 1 is HIGHLY unlikely. Will probably never happen.

Number 2 is the most likely. I don't mean actually kill off the character. They might just mention that the Joker is locked away in Arkham, or they might ignore the character all together.

Number 3 has a slim chance of happening (a la Superman Returns and Marlon Brando). Depends on if they have the footage and if it would work in the script.

The Joker didn't die at the end, he was sent to prison. I highly doubt they'll bring in another person as the Joker - just to commemorate the memory of Heath. For respect. Heath IS the Joker, and I think they'll keep it that way. Plus, Heath got so much critical acclaim for his role, I don't think they'd be able to find someone to step in his shoes. Who knows - will they make a sequel?

Rumours went round that Chris Nolan refused to cast Penguin - because he was too much of a joke. Guess he wants to keep the darkness. Can't wait to see what happens!
