  1. There are plenty of people who are interested in reviving Detroit, but until the citizens unite, care and start funding their own restoration, it is a lost cause.  Detroit cannot count on the resources from the suburbs alone to help rejuvinate.  MANY more people need to step up and take pride, ownership, and, most importantly, accountability.  Otherwise, the city will continue to fail.

Also, they need to get Kilpatrick out of office.  He is a liar, a cheater and a crook and never should have been re-elected.  I'm tired of him getting credit for the good work that Mayor Archer did when he was in office.

  2. The main objective of Motown's relocation was to branch out into the motion picture industry, and Motown Productions got its start in film by turning out two hit vehicles for Diana Ross: the Billie Holliday biographical film Lady Sings the Blues (1972), and Mahogany (1975). Other Motown films would include Thank God It's Friday (1978), The Wiz (1978) and Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon (1985).

Automotive industry just dispersed out and a lot of people went with it.  Why wasn't it replaced?  There was nothing to replace it with.  A lot of factories are considered Brownfield's and are tough to redevelop so they sit empty, vacant and create blight.

Things are being done, but there is so much to reverse.

  3. Although I now live in So. California, I was raised in Highland Park, Mich.     The flight began before '67...there was a previous riot in the 40's, when I lived there.  But, the auto industry supported Detroit families until a combination of foreign competition and unions made it less lucrative.  So, many Corporations fled to countries with cheap labor..and, they are never coming back!  You people in Michigan need to come up with something new and I suggest you buy a copy of National Geographic and read about the value of FRESH WATER.  I predicted that someday soon, fresh water will be more valuable than oil, and who has more fresh water than Michigan?  You don't even have to drill for it!  As an aside...George Bush just bought a 100,000 acre ranch in Paraguay..not for oil.  It sits atop the largest aquifer in the world.  He won't go thirsty!
