and also the fever that they called it then.that's when Elisabeth took the throne and then became the virgin elisabeth

  8. The power went to his head ...

  9. right well henryVIII had catherine of aragon mother of mary I who was divorced in 1533 because she had no sons, then you have anne boleyn who was the mother of elizabeth I who he had beheaded for adultry in 1536, he then married jayne seymor mother of edward VI who died twelve days after his birth, you then had anne of cleeves who was no sooner married than divorced, you then had catherine howard who was actually only a teen when she married henry but was beheaded for adultry in 1539 then last but not least catherine parr who was actually lucky enough to out live henry but only by a year dying in child birth un 1548. now we get onto the three kids. EDWARD VI became king on the death of his father HENRY VIII he reigned from 1547-1553 and died of tb. he was then succeded to the throne by lady jane grey who is otherwise known as the 9 days queen she was deposed by MARY I who seized the throne rightfully. she ruled from 1553-1558 and i believe she had a diseased womb and actually died of a heart condition and pneumonia. she was then succeded by ELIZABETH I who ruled from 1558- 1603 and i believe it was basically died of old age. HENRY VIII i think had an ulserated leg and died of respatory faliure at the age of 56

  10. That's a long story, but an interesting one.  Try the wikipedia entry to get an idea.

  11. Henry VIII eventually died in 1547, leaving his last wife, Katherine Parr, a widow.  He wasn't old by our standards - only just coming up to 56 - but looked it.

First wife was Katherine of Aragon, to whom he was married for more than 20 years.  They had one surviving daughter together (Mary I).  Henry had the marriage annulled, and she eventually died of, it's thought, cancer of the heart, in 1536.  She's buried in Peterborough Cathedral.

Second wife was Anne Boleyn.  After just about three years of marriage, having produced only a daughter (Elizabeth I), Henry had her beheaded on cooked-up charges of incest, adultery and witchcraft.  (They were almost certainly not true.)  She's buried in St Peter ad Vincula, in the Tower of London.

Third wife was Jane Seymour.  This lady produced the son Henry so much wanted and needed (Edward VI), but died just days later of childbirth fever.  She's buried in St George's Chapel, Windsor, and Henry was laid to rest with her in the end.  They're under a plaque with Charles I.

Henry then married Anne of Cleves.  He liked the portrait Holbein painted of her, but when he laid eyes on her he didn't like the lady at all, calling her the Flanders Mare.  Fearing to upset her family, he divorced her, called her the King's Good Sister, and she lived out the rest of her life quite happily in England.  She's buried in Westminster Abbey.

Henry then fell in love, at the age of nearly 50, with the teenaged Catherine Howard, related to Anne Boleyn.  The marriage didn't last long; he called her his Rose without a Thorn, but she did have thorns and was unfaithful to Henry.  The king found out, and had her executed.  She's buried, like Anne Boleyn, in St Peter ad Vincula.

Finally, Henry married the rather older Katherine Parr.  The lady was a widow and was more of a nurse and companion to her husband, as well as being kind to his children.  She outlived Henry and went on to marry her former love, Thomas Seymour.  Sadly, she died in childbirth, and is buried in the church at Thomas Seymour's seat, Sudeley Castle.

Of the children, Edward (Jane Seymour's son) then became king as Edward VI.  He reigned only until he was about16, dying a distressing death.

After a short interlude where Edward's Protector, Northumberland, tried to make his daughter-in-law queen (this was Lady Jane Grey, Queen of Nine Days), the eldest daughter took her rightful place on the throne.  This was Mary I, or "Bloody Mary", so called because she tried to bring England back to the Catholic faith, and had many Protestants burned in doing so.  She died after a short reign (of, possibly, cancer of the ovaries or uterus or, some say, influenza), and is buried in Westminster Abbey with her younger half-sister -

Elizabeth I, daughter of Anne Boleyn.  Elizabeth had, as you know, a long and glorious reign.  She eventually died naturally at the age of 69, and is buried with Mary (above).

Henry also had some illegitimate children, the most notable of whom was Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset.  He was the only one Henry VIII acknowledged, but he died as a teenager.

This is from my head, but google "Henry VIII" and you'll find loads of information about him.

(Rachelle, you left out one wife.)

  16. I read a very old manuscript in england where he tortured his wife and children then committed suicide.
