  1. Time for a second opinion. Vets are human too sometimes they miss something.  Good luck

  2. thats strange! how long has this been going on?

  3. What kind of tests did the vet do?

    Did they do blood work?

Somethings sounds wrong with him, and 13 isn't all that old for a cat (many live into their late teens or even early 20's).

Is there a chance he ate something he shouldn't have? Did they do xrays of his abdomin to see if he has a blockage in his intestines or stomach?

I'm afraid the vet didn't do a very thorough exam if they said nothing is wrong, yet he wont' eat and can't drink.

    I'd find a new vet.

  4. It may be just his age. I am so sorry this is happening to your cat.

  5. Yer vet didn't do any blood work did he?  sounds awful like an untreated diabetic - or CRF and older male cats are at risk for diabetes-take him back and get the blood work- its apparent that he's suffering- its not fair to him ...

  6. I agree with "queen of the dragons lair" .  Get a second opinion.

    Prayers be with you.

  7. Cats, like all other creatures, tend to become less active as they grow older.  The appetite of older cats is likely to decline with the decrease in their activity and some become fussy eaters.  Their diet will need to be adapted accordingly.  Sardines in oil once or twice a week will help to prevent constipation, a condition to which elderly cats are prone.  Beef mince, rolled in bran, is also palatable and will add fibre to the diet.

The most significant problem with old cats is progressive kidney failure.  The condition is reflected by an increased fluid intake and a correspondingly raised urine output.  Incontinence may also occur, while appetite will be reduced, leading to weight loss over a period of time.  Vitamin B12 appears to act as an appetite stimulant and may be given in the form of an injection by a veterinarian, to assist the overall condition of your cat.

If your cat has bad breath, this could indicate teething problems coupled with gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), or kidney failure or a combination of both.  When seeing your vet, it's worth taking a fresh urine sample obtained from your cat, in a clean sealed jar.  The sample can be most easily collected by lining the dirt box with clean metallic foil and then carefully pouring the urine into the jar.  Or alternatively, a smaller piece of foil with raised edges may be slid under the cat when it is in the process of urinating (you only need a small amount).  It is absolutely vital that the container used for the sample is thoroughly clean (this ensures a true reading).

  8. Find another vet? You shouldn't have to second guess everything your vet says. You're paying good money to have your pet taken care of and if all they can muster up is, "I don't know what it is...." and don't run any tests (blood test or stool sample), then they're just wasting your time and money. Get a 2nd opinion and if/when they find out what it is, take their printed diagnosis to the original vet and demand a refund.

  9. When my friend's cat started to behave this way, it turned out she'd had a stroke. She became quite clumsy. Her voice changed. And yes, she spilled her water a lot.

  10. age probably

your cat is just getting old

    i'm sorry

i really hope that this helps!

  11. It totally sounds medical - cats don't act like that unless something's wrong. Take him to another vet.

Even though he's getting older and will move around less than a younger cat, he should still be eating, using his box and walking around - being happy. If he's not happy, he's sick and you should look into it more.
