  1. If you mean the Silk Mill on the River Derwent, it was England's first factory, built in 1717.  Silk-making secrets wre stolen from Italian manufactors by John Lombe, who, with his father, established the Silk Mill. Later, Lombe was said to have been poisoned by an Italian assassin.

    Children, some as young as seven, worked at the Silk Mill. Their hours were from 5 in the morning to 7 in the evening.

    The Silk Mill is haunted. The lift, for instance, operates by itself. Cries of young boys, ghosts of the children laborers.  are heard in the Mill.

    The Silk Mill burnt down in 1910. All that was saved was the bell tower, itself haunted by a little boy who was kicked down the stairs by a foerman for not working hard enough.

    What now remains is the Industrial Museum of Derby.
