What happend to the joker in the end of the dark knight?

cz the last you see off him batmans hanging him off the edge of a building?? so what happend?

do you reckon they will get someone to fill in so the joker can be in the next film? just wondering cz his an awesome character

and is harvey dent really ded? or did they say he is so he like dies a hero or something so they dont think good people turn bad or summin like that???

He will have been arrested by the S.W.A.T team guys and then taken to Arkham Asylum

I don't think they will use the character for a while, until the Heath Ledger death tragedy has died down. Then they may replace with a new actor.

As far as we know Harvey Dent dies, he had a funeral. (Although they could have faked that just so that Gotham would remember him as a hero instead of having to warn all of Gotham that he is now a homicidal maniac on the lose). Aaron Eckhart (harvey dent) said he would love to reprise the role so dont be surprised if he didnt actually die.

The Joker was apprehended by the SWAT team and returned to Arkham Asylum.  Here's some dialogue to help:

JOKER: You just couldn't let me go, could you?  This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.  You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness.  And I won't kill you because you're too much fun.  You know, I think we're destined to do this forever, you and I.

BATMAN: You'll be in a padded jail forever.

JOKER: Maybe we could share one.  You know, they're gonna be doubling up the rate this city's inhabitants are losing their minds.

As for the Joker appearing in any further films, I doubt Chris Nolan(the director) will want to tamper with Heath Ledger's brilliant performance.  But you never know.

Harvey Dent appeared to be dead since they had a memorial service for him but I don't want to believe it.  As for why they covered up Dent's identity as the killer of five people, they didn't want the citizens to lose hope that they could take their city back from the criminals who overtook it by electing good leaders that would take the necessary legal actions to rid their town of the scum that infested it as opposed to putting on hi-tech bat suits and beating sense into the criminals one at a time with their bare hands.

i dont think he dies because in the movie they dont even show him get caught by the SWAT team batman just leaves him hanging there i think that he manages to escape because he is smart and stuff but dont show that in the movie

the joker is almost certainly arrested and taken to arkham asylum. there is absolutely no proof to suggest he died, the SWAT team just grabs him and takes him away. they wont get anyone to play the joker again, if nothing else, even tho he is a great character, he served his purpose in this film. there is nothing more for his character to do. also, i really cant see the filmmakers recasting the role and even using the joker again cos then they might as well just not make it and screen the dark knight again. if nothing else, people will always prefer heath ledger to whoever would play him, so its a lose-lose situation. it looks like the next film will have the riddler and maybe catwoman, and johnny depp looks likely to play the riddler.

harvey dent is almost certainly dead. there is a possibility he survived and was taken to arkham, and his death covered up, but in the script for the film, it is confirmed he was meant to die. that said, they can always turn it back around in the next film, but i wouldnt count on it

I think he did die or got put in the jail. And the replacement that might take place could be the Riddler.

Joker probably got sent to Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane.

I never thought Harvey Dent died but according to The Dark Knight script that was released, it confirmed that he did die.
