What happends if you caught drinking underage?

I'm 16 and I've never drank before and me and friends are going to drink a beer or two each. If we were to get caught by the police for some reason what would happen?

Depends on where you live.  If you were caught, say walking down the street, at a loud party, or something to that effect you would be charged with an MIP- minor in possession.  In Texas, it's a citation. (like a ticket)

Seeing how my buddy got a citation for giving alcohol to minors and ended up with community service (12 hours), I don't think you would end up with anything significant.

It completly depends on what's going on, though.  Suppose you had a couple beers and then stopped.  You won't be drunk.  Just don't do anything stupid, like drink inside a car or around town.  If it's at a party, don't host the party.  

I think the police mainly care about hard alcohol, not beers.  

Perhaps the worst that would happen is they would tell your parents, depending on if they care about that or not.  Maybe just the fact you ended up involved with the police for some reason is most concerning.  Another one of my friends ended up by far the most drunk I've ever seen someone and decided to leave and take a walk.  Turns out he forgot how to get back when he was done with the walk.  So he knocked on someone's door thinking it was where he came from.  Except, of course, it wasn't and it was 2am.  Needless to say, the police picked him up shortly afterwards, missing one shoe, and took him home to his parents.  Now, mind you, he was legal age, so he could've been cited for drunk in public or disorderly conduct, but they didn't.  His parents weren't too upset, though, which is ironic.  I think they were just glad he didn't go for a drive.

It all depends on which state you're in.  Some states don't care as long as you do it behind closed doors.  Others prosecute pretty heavily.

When I was 16 i was at a friends house actually getting sick on the side of his house when the cops pulled up. I found out later that they just told everyone to be quiet and poured out all the hard alcohol. They left the beer though for some reason. The cops were cool apparently they didn't care much.

But you guys could get tickets for minors in possession which is a misdemeanor and you could get taken to jail where they'd write you up, take mug shots and then release you in a few hours with the ticket.

Well it depends on what state you live in.  If you get cought with any type of alcohol and driving you will automatically go to jail, and get a DUI.  Which i don't recoment at all!  So if you are going to drink, do NOT drive.  

If  you get  cought by other means, you can be taken to jail, and your parents have to come and get you because you are under age.  They would investigate who got you the alcohol to begin with, and they would get in trouble for buying it for you.  You can also get a ticket, but like I said it all depends where you live.  But the outcome will be negative if you get cought any way you look at it.

In NJ you will get arrested (depending on the cirucmstances) more than likely you would have to attend alcohol classes and be forced to pay some very high fines....
