  1. You can follow the developments at Newser.com. They do a good job of summarizing the news stories for you. Here is a link to their world section:

  2. Some aren't happy and want Georgia to reunite and become part of Russia again. I think Russia is using this to get their foot in the door to take back over and oust Georgia's leader.

I say if they want to live in Russia, move to Russia,

  3. OSSENTIA.. WANTS INDEPENDENCE FROM GEORGIA.. ASKED

TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A NATION

South Ossetia (Ossetic: Хуссар Ирыстон, Khussar Iryston; Georgian: სამხრეთ ოსეთი, Samkhret Oseti; Russian: Южная Осетия, Yuzhnaya Osetiya) is a region in the South Caucasus, formerly the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast within the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, part of which has been de facto independent from Georgia since its declaration of independence as the Republic of South Ossetia during the Georgian-Ossetian conflict early in the 1990s.

    South Ossentia.

South Ossentia tried again several years ago to break away

from Georgia and obtain. its freedom but was unsuccessful

Both George and South Ossentia were part of the Of The USSR

Republic. OSSETIA HAS DECLARED ITS INDEPENDENCE.. GEORGIA DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT..

Although this former Soviet autonomous oblast (region) has declared its independence and is in de facto control of significant part of the region, its separation from Georgia has not been recognized by any other country and is regarded a de jure part of the Georgian region ( mkhare) of Shida Kartli. Georgia does not recognise the region as a distinct entity, instead referring to it by either the medieval name of Samachablo or, more recently, Tskhinvali region (after the republic's capital). The republic has held a second independence referendum on November 12, 2006, after its first referendum in 1992 was not recognized by the international community as valid..

MAJORITY WANT INDEPENDENCE... OF SOUTH OSSETIA..

As expected the referendum turned out a majority for independence from Georgia. South Ossetia

Southe Ossetta Tried to Separate from Georgia THREE TIMES BUT THIS WAS NOT RECOGNIZED ( BY INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES

I THINK OSSENTIA SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED. AS A SEPARATE COUNTRY..

EVERYONE WANTS FREEDOM.. IT IS OBVIOUSLY THEY DONT WANT TO BE WITH GEORGIA

  4. Here you have some information:

"If you’ve never heard of South Ossetia it’s understandable.

This tiny, mountainous region in the Republic of Georgia, population only 70,000, considers itself independent from Georgia and lives that way, with its own secessionist government. Most of its citizens, ethnic Ossetians, want to be reunited with Ossetians in Russia; many of them even have Russian passports and use Russian money.

The South Ossetians have held two referendums on independence but no country in the world has recognized their vote.

Now, South Ossetia is engulfed in fighting, refugees are fleeing north to Russia and the international community is scrambling to avert a wider conflict."

    More:

"South Ossetia is a territory one-and-a-half times that of Luxembourg, with an estimated population of some 70,000 people.

It is legally part of Georgia, since its self-proclaimed independence has been recognised by no other state, including Russia.

Yet its people and their separatist leaders do not want to be part of the Georgian state, in any shape or form.

They want either to attain international recognition as an independent state, or to be united with their ethnic kin living across the border in the Russian region of North Ossetia.

Russia asserts that its role since the end of the South Ossetian war in 1992 has been that of a peace-keeper."

  5. Georgia formally had South Ossetia as a state. But people in Ossetia wanted to separate from Georgia and become an independent country. Georgian goverment didn't like it. It was for long time and to prevent small conflicts between ossetians and georgians there were created peacemaker forces, including georgian and russian soldiers. It was years ago. (look for the news in region for last years if you don't believe)

8th august Georgia began bombing the main city of Ossetia - Tzhinval - with all artillery they've got. City is now lying in ruins, there are about 2,000 dead civilians and 10,000 unjured. Also Georgia attacked russian military forces base.

By the way - most of ossetians have russian passports and citizenship, because they live in Ossetia and work in Russia. So, Russia had to send military forces to protect it's citizens and help russian peacemaker forces. Yes, they entered georgian territory. But it is necessary to stop killing ossetian civilians.

By the order of United Nations, russian peacemaker forces can be located in Ossetia. While Georgia won't cease fire, russian forces will be here.
