What happened in Greenwich near Church Street?

There is a memorioal (flowers, shoes, T-shirts with writings, sayings etc) or something like that to a school boy about 18 or so in Greenwich, Maritime Greenwich near the river at Cutty Shark. Does anyone know what happened?

Yes I think he was 17 and drowned on Xmas eve If I remember rightly his body was found in January and he lived in Lee south east London.

I saw that last weekend.  I think he must have drowned.
