The thing is Cristian Bale had a Twin Brother who helped him with the act where he throws the ball goes into a door and comes out of another one and catches the ball,so the guy who caught the ball is actually the twin brother.

Because the bugger has a twin,the twin will not be able to answer Hugh Jackman's question as to which knot he ties (in the beginning due to which his ,Hugh's wife died),Because of this indecision on the part of Bale, a frustrated Hugh is on a mission to oust Bale in every Magic Trick.

THe second he sees the ball trick (of Bales) he tries to emulate and does so by getting a body double but Bale finds this fact and ruins the show in front of thousands of people.

So Hugh again goes in search of a better version of the same trick.He finds Volta whose invention makes an exact copy of whatever is put into it including Humans and other animals.

So hugh designs a Trick where just as the machine is switched on and the Duplicate of the person is transported elsewhere a trapdoor opens wherein the Hugh who went into the Machine is drowned.This case where the dead Hugh lies is tranported elsewhere and is stored away from prying eyes.

Bale who watches this trick and is on a mission to find the gimmick behind it goes under the stage,and just as he does so the Hugh who goes into the machine falls down and drowns and hence Bale is Convicted of Murder.

But as Bale has a twin brother , the father of the child comes out of the jail while in the brother faces the execution.

The father with the help of Micheal Kaine finds out where Hugh lives goes there and in the process learns the truth and kills him.

Hence in the end One Bale remains while all Hughs DIE! :D
