What happened in the end in the film American Pyscho?

I just watched the film American Psycho and do not understand what was happening ever since Bateman started his killing spree, starting with shooting that grandma at the ATM. Why did the police let up on him? I started to think it was a dream. Fill me in.

I am thinking it is just his thoughts on what he wanted to do, not actually having done any of the killings.  He is a little nutty.

You are right...all the killing thats going on is just in his head...there is nobody really dead...kinda surrealist stuff i would say. He is going crazy and only he knows it.
