What happened in the first episode of 90210?

I saw the first 45 minutes, but then the TV reception went off. I know it's on again tonight, but there's still 2 questions I really want to ask right now:

1. Which of the original characters are on the new one? (btw, I know Lori Laughlin, or something like that, was on the new one, but was she on the old one too?)

2. What was the story with Dixon? Is he adopted or something?

Jennie Garth as ''Kelly'' is on the new one as a guidance counselor and is sisters with Silver. Dixon was adopted I believe when he was 10.

1. Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, and Nat (the Peach Pit) was in it for a couple of seconds working in the kitchen.

2. Yeah, Dixon was adopted in it because, when Dixon and Annie are in the pool, Dixon said, "I don't want to have to tell every-one my story".
