Question:

What happened or what was before teh big bang theory?

I found some sites that try to explain what happened. I the universe just recycles its matter over and over, so every cell and ever particle that is here has probably been here for ever. Some people say that particles pop in and out of existence but I don't think that's true. I think particles just keep breaking down and breaking down into smaller peices and they become too small for us to ever be able to observe. Everything that is here has always been here and will always be here. I don't think its possible for matter to just decay and become nothing. For all we know, our universe has changed adn been changing (or has been big bouncing or big banging) an infinite number times, more than we as mere humans could ever begin to fathom...

  1. Yeah, you're right.

  2. Well, it has been shown that the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) equations work best in either 10 or 26 dimensions. So I think that the omniverse (that which contains the universe and all possible universes) probably had more space dimensions before our 3D universe's big bang. For example, there could have been a 4D universe before this one that died a heat death, and eventually that space decayed at a point, and at this point a region of space became three-dimensional. The "breaking" of the fourth dimension released a vast amount of energy which fed the expansion of the new 3D dimensional matrix.

    It's an idea, anyway.

  3. "...Some people say that particles pop in and out of existence but I don't think that's true..."

You're describing what are called 'virtual particles.' At quantum spatial ranges below 1.6^ minus 35 meters there exists what's known variously as zero-point energy, vacuum energy, etc.,. This energy can and does cause virtual particles to appear seemingly out of nothingness. They come in pairs, one the anti-particle of the other so that they almost instantaneously self-annihilate. That vacuum energy exists has been proven, mainly by experiments involving what's known as the Casimir Effect.

On second thought, just ignore the above. My experience here on Yahoo Answers has been that when someone posts something that's more of a personal theory than a real question they tend to ignore what science has learned and proven about our universe.

  4. the universe is filled with vacuum before the big bang happen.

this vacuum is later become the big bang ball with some reactions, i know them, but i will not able to explain.

  5. You ask what was there before the theory: other theories.

You mean, what was there before the universe began (according to the Big Bang theory), and the correct answer is:

    We don't know.

The Big Bang theory only allows us to explain what happens to a universe that is extremely hot and dense when it begins to expand and cool.

It does not tell us what was there before, or why it was that way to begin with.  It only deals with what happens AFTER the expansion begins.

We know that if we run the clock backwards, the energy density was so high (we understand better when we say "the temperature was so high") that matter as we know it could not exist.  It was too hot for protons and neutrons to exist (they only appeared a few seconds after expansion had started).

We also know that the furthest back in time we can go is called the Planck Time (very close to time=zero, but not exactly zero).  At that time, the temperature was so high that every single point in the universe was a black hole.

This also means that it is impossible (with the present knowledge) to understand what could have been before.

We can guess (and there are many guesses out there), and the one you describe (the eternally bouncing cycle of Big Crunches - Big Bangs) is certainly one of the guesses.  Another guess is that there is a much bigger universe (with more dimensions than our own) and our universe is just a portion of that universe that began to grow (for what reason? there are many guesses for that too).

However, particles do pop in and out of existence.  That has been verified in experiments and it has been shown to be possible in calculations.  Of course, that does not "prove" that the whole universe can pop into existence, but it shows that it is still a valid guess (we cannot yet dismiss the possibility that the whole universe just popped into existence).

  6. Big bang does not make any sense. First there was nothing? Then something exploded. Mmm. Combine that with "Before the big bang there was no time.". Makes even less sense. If you take a cd for instance and shatter it, what would happen at some moment that there was no time? Nothing. Stand still. You cant for instance break a cd if time stood still. How did big bang happen then? This is all theory created by people. Nobody can tell you the real answer. I just know that it does not make sense. Seems that they are just trying to discredit the bible?

  7. "I don't think its possible for matter to just decay and become nothing."

"I think particles just keep breaking down and breaking down into smaller peices and they become too small for us to ever be able to observe."

    errrrr...........

Your "theory" is contradictory and fails to explain why the universe is expanding.... and while doing so accelerating.

According to your 2nd statement we should see stuff disapearing all over the place.  As for your first statement ever heard of the equation E=mc^2?

"Some people say that particles pop in and out of existence but I don't think that's true."

Electrons do "pop" in and out of existance......

This is weird stuff no one really understands

  8. I do think that if you can learn it you should definitely try but to make all you really smart people feel a little more relieved just stick to something easier until you figure it out...like god made it so that's why it's there, and that's it. Sometimes just the simplest reasons can just make anyone wonder though.

  9. There are several religions, some major, that believe that the universe goes through cycles of collapse and rebirth.
