Question:

What happened to American Tennis talent?

Roddick and Blake seems to be falling behind every year. Williams sisters are the only one to contest for any grand slam title in coming years.

Are there any talented jr. players who can storm into top rankings in few years?

  1. andy and james are not falling behind, they're getting older, so i guess it's normal.-

still, solid top ten it's not all that bad.-

as for the next generations, everybody keeps waiting for the next big break, maybe they're trying too hard to find a replacement for pete and  andre, that the new kids just have way too much presion over their shoulders, and sometimes they can't handle it.-

i guess it's also like roddick says, the previous generations was so great that the public was a bit spoiled, they really good but it's tought to fill those shoes.-

  2. The business world is a cash cow.

  3. American`s are rubbish on clay, simple as that lol

  4. You might as well ask "where have all the flowers gone?"( a protest song from the 60's for all you kiddies out there)

I asked that question here last year when U.S. players didn't even make it past round one!

They're doing a bit better this year but not much and the Williams sisters have just bombed.

I guess tennis doesn't generate that much TV interest in the U.S. and it takes too much hard work and a lot of being a way and travelling all the time. You can make more playing golf or as a NBC basketball player.

But really, the same question should be asked about the Australians, the British and the Swedes, all of whom once dominated this sport.

  5. They are taken over by younger players.

  6. American tennis was destroyed by college tennis coaches who began recruiting washed-up European and African pros to play for their colleges.

When American boys realized they had little chance to compete for scholarships they abandoned the sport.

What these "coaches" did not realize is the difference in educational systems force Americans to actually study to get ready for college and therefore Americans would develop later than their counterparts around the world.

Until the scholarships come back American tennis ain't coming back.  Thank the coaches.
