What happened to Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium being the world's largest TV screen?

I watched a Discovery Channel feature/documentary on the Olympic venues and they said in there that the Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium's walls will be covered with LED and the basketball games to be shown on it making it the world's largest TV screen. In the feature, it was also speculated that due to budget constraints by China that the stadium's size may be downgraded and that the LED screens may not be put at all.

I found this article in the Saint Petersburg Times.

The highly innovative concept of broadcasting the basketball games over the walls of the Basketball gymnasium was scrapped off ostensibly for cost reasons.
