What happened to Binion's Horseshoe Sign (Downtown Las Vegas Casino) with the big bills in it?

I heard that they took this sign down and I was wondering what ever happened to it. They used to have it located close to the side door and I had my picture taken there several times.

They put a post card type of stamp on the back of it and you could mail it to family and friends.

I just thought it was cool and wanted to know if it's still around. Any info for this enquirering mind would be appreciated. Thanks,

Mike h.

  1. I last read his daughter raided it during the sell of Binions. I do know Four Queens possesses the Binions building now.

A lot of fun stuff disappearing from downtown.

    Corporation take-overs.

  2. Oh it's hanging in my basement, with a few other old Vegas Casino signs.

  3. - Benny Binions children tried to run it after his death, and his daughter Becky Binion finally took control. They sold the big bill's to collectors. Becky went bankrupt in 2004, and it was bought out by a partnership that included Harrah's corporation and a West Virginia horse track and casino company. Harrah's wanted the "World Series of Poker" and the Horshoe brand names which they have been promoting. They could care less about the casino. The West Virginia company kept losing more and more money on the place until they sold it a few months ago to a local investor (Terry Caudill) this year.

    - The local investor had also bought the money losing Four Queens casino across the street and managed to turn it into a profitable business, and he is hoping to extend that success to Binion's (it legally can't be called "The Horshoe" anymore since Harrah's bought that brand name).

    They are doing some renovations.

    -----------------

The casino has a great deal of nostalgic sentiment for people who want to remember when the casinos were owned by people who were on the marginal side of the law. Benny Binion was thrown in jail for tax evasion and he ran the place through his family. A lot of people miss the sign.
