What happened to Dementieva in the last set?

I was pretty sure that Safina would pull it off but I didn't expect that Dementieva would go from taking the first set to losing the last one 1-6!!! I had to go out and missed the last set. What happened?

  1. In the last set Safina was just so solid and Dementieva made far too many unforced errors. So essentially Dementieva lost it rather than Safina won it-If you know what I mean) Safina is looking really good at the moment and has real momentum after winning the German Open. So Safina in the semis. She now has every chance of winning though I am still going for Kuznetsova but would like Jankovic do win-Come on Jelena!

  2. Dementieva got dementia in that third set, apparently.  I haven't seen the match yet because I'm on the west coast, but it looks like Safina gained a lot of confidence by winning the second set, and went on a roll in the third.  And the opposite must be true of Elena, who probably felt huge disappointment that she didn't close out the match in the second set, and it affected her in the third.  Safina is proving herself  to be a warrior out there though with all these comebacks.  Very well done.

  3. yeah h**l of a comeback and the end of a Cinderella story would be for her to win it all- but sorry it's Jankovic's turn

  4. She always has had that problem. I disagree that is a complete player. Mentally sometimes she can really blow it like she did today. I haven't watched her play in past few months, but when I did her serving was a mess. I heard she did clean it up though, which is good. As for Safina, props to her for taking advantage and moving on.

  5. it was a bagel 6-0 for dinara safina

  6. She lost the last set 6-0.  This was a sad result because not only was Dementieva winning smoothly up 6-4, 5-2 with a match point, but she really is just better, in a higher level and more complete than Safina.  Dementieva really is one of the best players out there and has all the weapons and makings, but it's just that some of her matches prevent her from getting there.  She continues to be the best active female player never to win a slam so far.

  7. very disapointing i was hoping demeteva would pull through... i think demeteva had somewhat of a mental breakdown... she is not mentally tough enough.....

she will never meet her potential if she always runs of the boil like this..... hopefully wimbledon she will have a stronger run.. but at wimbledon the serve is even more important and that is her biggest draw back.. so well see

  8. No, she didn't lose it 1-6..it was a humiliating bagel[0-6].

She choked and got totally outplayed.
